Winter Car Care Tips

The winter can be cold and cruel, especially to your car. From the finish to the wheels, front bumper to rear, your car needs protection from the winter elements. Here is some food for thought… after you’ve digested these items, give us a call and we’ll make sure your vehicle is sheltered from the winter weather.

Waxing

Winter waxing is not only a smart way to inspect your car for new damage, but it also provides a strong barrier to the winter elements. No single action on your part does more to protect your car’s finish, and your investment, than waxing during the winter.

Wheels

You probably don’t think about your wheels during the winter. Yet road-sand mixes with brake dust, snow, and slush to form an abrasive and corrosive paste that attacks your wheels with a vengeance. This attack is fueled by the wheel’s temperature, which increases when braking. Keep your wheels clean and waxed during the winter to extend their life. Let the wax take the abuse. Not your wallet.

Snow Removal

Brushing snow from your car is sometimes a necessary evil. But remember that under that snow is the dirty surface of your car so be very careful when removing it. Carelessly brushing off snow is doing no less than scraping abrasives across the paint. Be gentle. Lightly use a soft brush in a short, straight pattern without removing all of the snow. DO NOT scrape ice off body panels. It’s unnecessary and can only do harm.

Ice Removal

NEVER use warm water to clear a windshield or headlights of ice since the temperature difference can cause the glass to break on contact — not a cheap repair.

Using Mats

Floor mats usually provide your carpets enough protection during the mild months, but when your shoes bring in snow, ice and mud, things can get bad. Use heavy-duty rubber floor mats to catch this filth and protect your expensive factory floor mats.

Doing these simple things can protect your vehicle from the elements. A little thoughtful care can save you a lot of cash and keep your car looking great as you come through the winter months.
