Hitting the Road with an Eyesore, or a Castle on Wheels?
Detailing your RV will not only boost your pride, it will prolong the life of your investment…
By Jason Barker
If you’re like most RV owners, Spring is when you begin to look forward to hitting the road again. You may have been making payments on that thing all winter and you can’t wait to use it now that the weather’s getting nicer.
Being in the detailing business, we get to see it all – the good and the bad. Most RV owners take pretty good care of the interior. Where things most often get neglected is on the exterior. The RV sits alongside the house or in a storage lot, subjected to the elements – those final blistering days of Summer, the ice, wind and rain in the winter. Worse still, if an RV is parked under a tree through the winter, that adds a whole layer of other issues that can cause wear and tear on the exterior finish.
RVs need periodic exterior waxing, just as a car or pickup needs regular waxing. Most people wait several years before their first polishing or waxing of their RV, because, let’s face it – it’s a huge job. With all that time between driving that big investment off the lot and the first full on exterior care, you could be looking at an expensive Full Exterior Detail Service, which can run over the $1,000 range.
Instead, just like you care for your cars, getting a simple hand wax applied on a regular basis can save you a lot of cash and protect your investment in your RV. This keeps the RV looking new and prevents sun damage and fading of the surface. It also makes it MUCH easier to remove those dark vertical lines that appear down the sides of most fiberglass RV exteriors after a couple years.
What time of year the wax is applied isn’t important, just that it’s done AT LEAST once a year, preferably semi-annually. A great time to get a wax job on your RV is when you’re doing your winterizing maintenance, and then again when you do your spring cleaning in preparation for hitting the open road.
As mentioned, most RV owners take pretty good care of the interior. But the one thing that really takes a beating in the interior is the carpet. From kids tracking in beach sand, to muddy dog paws after a sudden rain shower, those carpets really get dirty. While most people give their RV carpets the once-over with a vacuum after each trip, you can add a lot of life to yours by doing an annual deep, steam-cleaning. After all, you’ll be spending a lot of time inside the RV as well as moving it on down the road.
Regular, scheduled detailing can add years to your RV investment, as well as enhance its resale value. Give us a call if you have any questions about caring for the interior or exterior of your RV, and happy trails!
