Water spots on your paint or windows are the result your car getting wet from either city or well water, then the water evaporates and leaves behind minerals and chemicals.
The two most common occurrences are:

• Not drying your car after home-washing.
• A lawn or landscaping sprinkler inadvertently sprays your car in the hot sun while you’re in the store shopping.

Note: Rain will not cause these water spots because it is free from the kinds of chemicals that cause spotting.

Regardless of the cause, these water spots need to be removed as soon as possible because similar to over-spray, over time these spots (chemicals and minerals) will etch permanent pits into your paint.
