Most people really neglect their boats and don’t wax them nearly often enough (or never!).  Gel coats need UV protection just like your car’s paint needs it.  It’ll cost you far less in the long run to have your boat detailed at least annually.  Imagine what all that saltwater, sun, river water, suntan lotion, sand, soda, etc. do to your boat’s finish. You would never treat your car that way.
